"TOPHEAT" CERAMIC HEATER

FEBRUARY 27, 2022

I saw an advertisement on an email I received today for a small ceramic space heater.  Maybe you have seen it too.  I was curious about these things, so I  clicked it and read the article with interest.  It is very simple to evaluate this type of item.  There is simple law involving heat or energy. The law states the energy can not be created or destroyed, only transferred from one state to another.  In this case the energy supplied is electricity. We buy it from our utility.  We can plug this device and in and it converts the electricity to heat.  How it does it is another topic. The law tells us that we get a certain amount of heat out of a particular unit of electricity and that is it.  You can't get more.  There is no 110% output.  100% is all there is.  simply stated;  if the heater is in the space, all the electrical energy that it uses goes into that space, typically as heat.  If the unit has a fan, the fan uses some of the electrical energy to run the motor.  That starts getting a bit more complicated for this lesson.  The space you are heating requires a certain amount of energy to stay at a set temperature.  That amount depends on a lot of factors that are changing constantly.  if you want to know how much energy it will take to heat you space, send me the room size, window size, door size, each wall, floor, ceiling structural design, and temperatures desired in the space and the temperature or the other side of each wall, ceiling and floor.  I can then give you an estimate of how much energy it will take to heat the space.  Also give me your electricity cost per KWH and I will tell you what it will cost?  Of course this will just be a good guess.  The criteria is changing constantly,  after you have this information, you will understand how long that $50 will heat that space.
